Building on my work on synestias and the structure of planets after giant impacts, my colleagues and I have suggested a new model for Moon formation. Previous models have been unable to explain key observations and our proposed scenario reproduces many properties of the Earth-Moon system, such as the moderately volatile element depletion of the Moon, for the first time. We have presented provisional versions of our model at a number of conferences and a paper is currently in review. Check back soon for more information.
