I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Martin Nowak's group at the Program for Evolutionary Dynamics at Harvard University. I develop algorithms and mathematical models to study biological processes, in particular those related to the evolution and treatment of cancer. My research on metastases is funded by an Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).

I received a B.Sc. in Software & Information Engineering from the Vienna University of Technology in 2009 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Interdisciplinary Areas under the supervision of Krishnendu Chatterjee from the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) in 2015. I gained additional experience at Microsoft Research (2014; Redmond, USA), the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) (2009-2010; Vienna, Austria), Google Zurich (2008; Zurich, Switzerland), Google Dublin (2007; Dublin, Ireland) and Siemens (2006; Vienna, Austria).

Research

I develop computational and mathematical models to understand the dynamics of biological processes, in particular those relevant during the evolution, spread and treatment of cancer. My research mostly focuses on questions related to tumor progression, metastasis and the evolution of resistance. I also work on questions in evolutionary game theory, for example the evolution of cooperation and competition models. Most recently I got interested in the evolutionary history of metastases and their dissemination routes - nicely outlined by Paula Kiberstis ("Metastasis: An evolving story", Science, 2016).

I actively collaborate with many theoretical and biomedical scientists to pursue these questions.
