Objectives of African language Instruction

These language courses provide students with literacy skills (ability to understand, speak, read and write) in the languages so that they can be functional in specific countries and regions of Africa. We follow a set of proficiency guidelines for each language level; beginning, intermediate, and advanced.

Proficiency Guidelines

These are specific to the FIRST YEAR of language instruction and may vary. Please check with the Director of the Language Program for details concerning the guidelines for all language levels. Select a language from the list below to view its FIRST YEAR proficiency guidelines. Consult Jill Roszhart at roszhart@fas.harvard.edu for languages not listed.
