From seventh grade to senior year, I spent most seasons running either cross country or track for Pac 5 (a combination of many small schools, including HBA, Maryknoll, Mid Pac, UHS, etc.) Many races, many good times, and many strong friends. That's Pac 5 running in a nutshell.
I believe this was my sophomore year at the state championships at Kaiser High School. Had one lap to go at this point, I think, and won in 4:27.
Here is me with Leo Marshall (middle) and Matt Korpita after the state championships on Maui my Junior year. Matt outkicked a Nanakuli kid to win the 800, I outkicked a Millilani guy to win the mile, but lost the 3200 to a guy who PR'ed by over 20 seconds.
No wonder I lost the 3200m in the last lap. That very afternoon Marshall was kicking the snot out of me on the beach!!!
Sometimes the intensity before a XC race like this is so thick you can cut it with a knife....
