My main interest lies in explaining phonological change, and in understanding how phonology might constrain phonetically induced changes. Historical linguistics provides a rich knowledge base and a large dataset of phonological changes, and phonetic science provides knowledge of human articulation and perception. Combining the insights from these two fields is therefore an essential aspect in modeling an explanatory phonological theory.
