| ASIAN POLLUTION AFFECTING NORTH AMERICA |
Animation showing carbon monoxide (CO) from Asia transported across
the Pacific Ocean at 2km (top) and 4km (bottom) altitude.
The prevailing winds north of 30 degrees carry
concentrated amounts of CO, ozone and other pollutants from west to
east. The animation shows a forecast for April 22-27, 2006, during
which several cold fronts carry bands of fresh pollution rapidly
towards North America.
For reference, the EPA requires CO concentrations to be below 9000 ppbv. |
