Goals of the Trip
We hope that the trip will be a time when the graduate students from all different fields can get together to do something both meaningful and fun. Many of the stops will be of geological interest, but students of all academic backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to attend. ALl of the incoming G1s are planning to come on the trip, so it will be a great opportunity to meet them and help them feel at home with the folks in the department.

Logistics
We'll be flying from Boston to Phoenix on September 2 and we will return on September 9. From Phoenix we'll drive up to the Flagstaff area, where we will spend the first few days of the trip. If you're over 25 years old and are willing to drive one of the vans please let us know.

We'll camp each night and cook our own food. Geoclub has a limited amount of camping equipment, so we encourage you to bring your own if you have it. We'll provide a detailed packing list later this summer.

If you are interested in staying in Arizona past our departure date of September 9, please let us know. We may be able to arrange a later return flight for you. No guarantees though.

The EPS Department has kindly agreed to completely fund the trip, so it's free for any EPS or EPS-affiliated student who wants to come.

Tentative Schedule of Stops and Activities
You can look at a map of the area we'll be visiting and the tentative route, and the proposed itinerary.

The places we're planning on going include...

If you have ideas about other places we could visit, let us know.

Student Participation
While we're in the field, everyone will give a brief presentation on a topic of their choosing. We will have a diverse group of students, so the talks should be aimed at a general scientific audience. Talks should be about 5-10 minutes long and related to something we're looking at on the field trip. You can look at the list of possible topics for ideas.

In addition to the talk, each person will write a short (one page) summary of their topic to be included in a field guide. We'll assemble these field guides at the end of August so that everyone has a copy for the trip.

Equipment and Packing List
Check back here later this summer for a list of things you should bring and camping gear we need to assemble for the group.
