THE OFFICIAL JORDAN HOUSE REUNION '98 CHAIN LETTER

Dearest Former Jordanites, Class of '88:

Here I sit, pondering our upcoming Smith Reunion next May: Should I go? Have I lived up to the Smith standard of achievement? Will I be the only one whose skin is losing elasticity, giving the area under my chin this soft, cushiony, soon-to-be-wrinkly feeling? Will everybody else's significant others be more brilliant and good looking than mine? Will their children also be more brilliant and good looking than mine? (Hardly possible!) Or perhaps you are wondering if everybody else will be unearthing tiny photos of their spouses and off-spring while you could hardly imagine wanting to commit to one person right now, let alone drive the kids to Gymboree.

Still the questions plague us: Will I have to buy yet another completely white dress that will take me another 10 years to give away? Are we going to have to knit? Drink tea? Eat Koo Koo mit Secret Sauce? Listen to Wham!? Date the Bran Win guy? Watch that Bigfoot video again? Collect additional Big Hair sitings? Yell "Foo!" from a window?

I conclude that the only possible way I could dream of attending the sure-to-be scary event would be if ALL of Jordan House reunited once again. For what is Smith to us but really those random, green boot-wearing women whose battle cry sounded "J-J-J-O-R-?(etc.)?" Sure, many of us have lost some of our groovy-ness (unfortunately) and our taste for butt jokes (fortunately), but I am quite certain that given the right atmosphere (a grand piano), the perfect music (anything from the 'Animal House' soundtrack), the appropriate food (Garden Sandwiches), and a bucket of tequila, we can most definitely regain our groove.

So I challenge you, sisters o' mine, to find your way once again to Northampton. It truly won't be the same with out you, yes, even you. I have not forgotten you, though forgive me if I don't know your current name: Katy Bell, Laura Brown, Julia Burke, Elizabeth Cook, Allison Cooke, Donna Burridge, Caroline Diehl, Jane Dusterberry, Karen Dwyer, Sue Eichner, Caitlin Gibbs, Debbie Fuchs, Alison Gallup, Missy Green, Jennifer Gray, Sarah Wright, Kim Kupa, Ellen Maguire, Laurie Marinone, Frances O'Donnell, Julie Parker, Heather Ratcliffe, Diane X. Richard, Andrea Shapiro, Erin Sheehy, Jen Sigler, Rora Tanaka, Missy Tell, Pam Victor, Kate Wilson and Amy Wynn. (I apologize if you do not find yourself on this list. It is not an intentional exclusion, only an unfortunate oversight. Please don't allow my error to keep you from coming. All former Jordanites are welcome!

In the spirit of Mary Jordan, please email the address of this plea to as many of the people mentioned above as you can. (Try to send out at least four please.) We're counting on you.

If you remember any of the following, it is your wimmin-ly duty to attend our reunion: the CDO, shards of glass, sweaty finals cheese, Caitlin's boyfriend Kevin from the kitchen, The Venus of Villendorf, Bob and his famous tapioca pudding, the words "random," "scary," "cretin," "singing group-ish" or "shrub," Gloria's square hair, women who smoke large cigars, women with thin moustaches, 'The Preppie Handbook,' rowing around Paradise Pond, 'Little Creatures,' Art 100, tap sucking, matzo in the toaster, The World O' Tapes, taking to bus to Amherst for a (I swear this is the last) party, Rugby Shirt Steve, Spring Flings, throwing the dummy out the window to the tune of "Louis, Louis," 'Dear Sophie' and the 'Groovy Page' and finally random tackling.

There, I have relayed my message to the great universe of womonhood. I can't wait to see you all.

With great fondness,

A Former Bow Head

To Jordanites from Jen Gray:

In response to the call for Jordanites to reunite: I have read your plea, and I will be there - and I'm bringing Sarah Wright and Caroline Diehl with me! And thank you to whoever included me in the list of Jordanite alumns, even though I didn't "officially" live there.

See you soon!

Jen Gray

To: Jordan House Alums

From: Melissa Hickock Tell

Subject: Should I stay or should I go

Date: April 8, 1998

I am asking Ms. Shapiro to post this on the Web for me, as I am currently operating without an e-mail account (FOR SHAME!!). I must say, I was vacillating a bit on this 10-year reunion thing, but after being reminded of "Rugby Shirt Steve" I found myself laughing so damn hard that I suddenly realized I had no choice but to go and hook up with some truly odd, yet strangely compelling folks who helped shape my life in a wonderful way.

I am writing to you from Columbus, Ohio, where I am currently domiciled with a 2-yeal old male Basset Hound named "Lou." I have just accepted an offer to be Campaogn Manager for Adam Clay Miller, a "New Democrat" (I coined that) who is running for U.S. Congress in Ohio's 15th District. We are going to unseat a 3-term incumbent who is very close with Mr. Newt Gingrich. Obviously, you all understand why this person must be removed IMMEDIATELY!

As the dark-horse contender, Mr. Miller must raise A LOT of money for commercials in the fall. Anyone out there interested in making a small donation to this VERY worthy cause should not hesitate to send bad checks, loose change, we'll take anything to: Adam Miller for U.S. Congress, c/o Melissa Tell, 844 City Park Avenue, Columbus, OH, 43206. (Make checks payable to "Adam Miller for U.S. Congress.")

I am looking forward to seeing EVERYONE from Jordan House, not to mention some other nefarious individuals including, but not limited to: James, the WWII buff from Neilson Library; Dean Flowers; Professor Eric Carlson; and the entire staff of the Red Lion diner.

See you in May!

Best Regards, Missy

And this from Andrea Shapiro

Greetings from Boston, a place I just can't seem to leave! I am looking forward to seeing my fellow Jordan House alums and other classmates at reunion. So much has happened in ten years ... I had the pleasure of visiting Smith last month, and the changes both on campus and in Northampton are amazing. I hear that the time capsule has been relocated to Alison Gallup's parents' new home in Stamford, CT, but since we all remember most of its contents (who could forget the green boot, and those peaches with mint jelly?), maybe we should wait for our 25th reunion to open it.

See you in Northampton,

Andrea

A note from Donna Burridge-Vohar

It was wonderful to see my name on the list of Jordan House Alums. I have been trying to find lots of you on the web...but to no avail. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Karen Dwyer I would love to find her. I have lots of great memories of Jordan house. Mostly, I remember how wonderful it was to be a part of the Smith family.

My life is filled with lots of good things these days. I purchased a new home in Easthampton and now have 3 grandchildren. Caleb is 4. Jessie is 9, and Devon is 6. I am working on a novel. It is a thriller. The protagonist is a professional basketball player by the name of MJ. Her nemesis is a woman named Marilyn. Lots of twist and turns.

I would love to here from Julie Parker, Jen Vacca, Brandy Button et al. Wishing you all the best.

LIFEGUARDS NEEDED!!!

Hey all you Lifeguards who were members of the Smith Synchronized Swim Club and class of '88, how about a reunion of our own?! Sure I hung up my noseclips long ago but how about a swim together during reunion weekend just for old times sake? Don't worry if the bathing suit doesn't fit quite the same as it used to or if you've totally forgotten how to scull. It'll be fun just to do a couple of laps together. Or we can just stick to land drills. I've already heard from Cara and Katie (contact me again you guys) and would love to hear from others.

Hi Kerri (Cattabrigia)!

Remember when we used to be loud and obnoxious in Neilson Library? And when you, Kerry and I would sunbathe on the roof? I was glad to see you'll be at reunion. By the way, I've been wanting to get in touch with Kerry Carney. Do you (or anyone else who's reading this) know her whereabouts? Please e-mail me at TSelinsky@aol.com. See you in May. : )

Dear Jill (Delacey Galligani):

Felicitations on your marriage to a Frenchman no less. When I read about you in the alumni bulletin I was reminded of that wild and crazy junior year abroad! I don't have all that much opportunity to use French anymore so I'm pretty rusty. I wonder if you're living in France speaking French all the time...Must be nice! I'm looking forward to seeing you at reunion and hearing about your overseas escapades! My e-mail address is TSelinsky@aol.com and my home address is 5902 Memorial Highway, #1602, Tampa, Florida 33615. I'd love to hear from you. : ] See you in May at reunion!

Je t'embrasse,

Tina
