I first got on the air in February 2006. This was my first contact despite being licensed for over 27 years! I got my novice license (callsign KA4FHJ) in December, 1978 following a licensing class that I took that fall with my father through the Fairfax County, VA public schools' adult education program. Neither my dad, the late George V. Clark, KA4FSC, nor I got on the air with our novice licenses. I took up the hobby again in 2005 partly as a way of remembering Dad. I upgraded from novice to extra class in the summer of 2005 and briefly held the calsign AA4AE. I received the W1XW callsign in January 2006.

I use a Ten-Tec Corsair II transceiver, an ICOM 703 low power (QRP) transceiver, a tuner, a tree-mounted 80m inverted V running more or less north-south, a 40m, N-S inverted V, and a 20m E-W inverted V. My maximum transmitter power is about 70w on the Corsair II, 10w on the ICOM 703 (my only option for 6m).

I work as a reference librarian at Harvard University and have degrees in geology, geography, and library science. I am a member of the Harvard Wireless Club. Please QSL directly or via bureau .
