This table describes the contents of the file: "citas90_cnty_pgn.zip" which can be accessed from the CHGIS working papers downloads page.

This dataset is a reprojection into the CHGIS basemap projection (Krasovsky, Pulkovo) of the mid-year "China Administrative Regions GIS Data: 1:1M, County Level, 1990" dataset. The data was created by China in Time and Space (CITAS), and is also available in the original version (Lambert Conformal, Clarke 1866) from CIESIN. The specific dataset is the National coverage of county boundaries, filename: tbd9071.zip.

The CITAS 1990 County boundaries were reprojected to facilitate use with CHGIS data. The ArcView Shapefile "citas90_cnty_pgn" will open up seamlessly with both ArcChina and CHGIS, allowing users to compare the CHGIS version 1.0 Prefectural boundaries (circa 1820 CE) with the contemporary county boundaries (circa 1990 CE).

CNTY_NM	Pinyin Placename of the official administrative name of the County Level unit.
LOCAL_NM	Short form, or local variation Pinyin Placename of the county level unit.
