Monastic Census in GIS
Thomas Hahn
The presentation will focus on a specific set of data, most pertaining to a census of registered Buddhist monks in China around 1917. Other layers of information have been added, such as population statistics of 1946/7, Guobiao codes of 1999, PinYin and Wade-Giles romanization, longitude and latitude readings for the roughly 2300 counties which are tabulated in this MS-Access database. We hope to have the data mapped against 1999 county level boundaries. Should these not be available we will step back in time and will try to accommodate the 1990 county boundaries
