Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must pursue an independent project on modern Europe or transatlantic relations in history or the social sciences.
- Applicants must possess a PhD at the time of application.
- Applicants outside of academia who are well established in their profession with a minimum of 7 years professional experience, such as journalists, are also encouraged to apply. Call for Applications
Application deadline: The deadline to apply for the 2012-2013 academic year has passed. Candidates are expected to be notified of decisions by early May.
Application Instructions:
- Cover letter including requested dates of residence and funding sources
Note: University appointments have a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year. Appointments in 2012-2013 will not begin before September 1, 2012.
- Current curriculum vitae
- Title and 3-5 page description of research or project to be carried out at CES
- 100 word abstract of research project
- In the case of non-native English speakers: TOEFL scores or a brief, signed letter attesting to competency in spoken and written English
- Two letters of recommendation are also required.
Please be prepared to ask two referees to submit reference letters on your behalf.
All correspondence should be written in English and addressed to the CES Director, David Blackbourn.
Please note that applications for the 2012-2013 academic year will not be accepted after the final March 2, 2012 deadline. Decisions on applications will be made by the Center's Steering Committee. Acceptance as a Visiting Scholar is not final until approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Governing Boards of the University.
Off-Cycle Applications for 2013-2014
Although the Center will not consider applications prior to the annual March deadline for the 2013-2014 academic year, exceptions are made for candidates who are applying for specific fellowships or grants that require a statement of affiliation with an American institution (for example, Fulbright grants) and whose deadline is prior to the Center's March 2013 deadline.
Eligible candidates may submit these off-cycle applications for consideration by the Center's Director and Executive Director. The deadline for off-cycle applications is October 15, 2012.
