I've loved chess since I was 10 years old, because it is a beautiful mixture of strategy (long term planning) and tactics (short term planning). This contrasts with checkers (in which tactics are more dominant) and Go (in which strategy is more dominant). On the other hand, many Go players consider chess to be rather crude and brutal.
I have played in many tournaments and am rated in the Expert range by the US Chess Federation, around the 98th percentile of tournament players. A few interesting games that I have played are given below (use the < and > buttons below each board to navigate, or directly click on the moves). To view thousands of grandmaster games, a great site is chessgames.com. The best source for chess news is The Week in Chess.
