Relationships
Relationships are the basis of learning at BGCC. The relationships our creative, nurturing, and experienced teachers build with the children are at the heart of this program. These relationships create a secure base from which children can explore their relationships with other children and with the materials in our prepared environment.
Teaching through play
Our teachers are engaged with children, working together to question, to invent and to discover. We provide:
  • the time for deep and broad exploration
  • a good range of intriguing materials
  • and provocative questions that lead to new connections.
We see children's play not as an alternative to learning, but as the way children learn. Children construct their own knowledge; the guidance and support of our teachers facilitate that process.
Professional staff
Researchers have found that one of the indicators of quality childcare is the education level of the teachers. Sixty five percent of the staff at BGCC have degrees in Early Childhood Education. Of those, thirty percent have Master's degrees, twenty percent have Bachelor's degrees and fifteen percent have Associate's degrees. Another fifteen percent of the staff have degrees in other fields. Forty percent of the staff is currently working towards further degrees.

High quality childcare has also been correlated to teacher compensation. Our teachers' salaries and benefits (including paid time off) compare very favorably with other childcare centers.
