The Billion Prices Project is an academic initiative to collect daily prices of retailers around the world. I started the project with MIT-Sloan Professor Roberto Rigobon, and a team of MIT undergraduates is helping us to expand the number of prices we download each day from retailers in over 50 countries. For more detailed information see the Billion Prices Project's Website.

Below I show some daily price statistics from Latin America, were we first started collecting data back in October 2007.

Price Statistics - Daily Supermarket Inflation (updated twice a week)

These graphs show daily supermarket price indexes. The data and methodology are described in my job market paper "Scraped Data and Sticky Prices: Frequency, Hazards and Synchronization", where I also show how these indexes can closely track CPI statistics.

All graphs are interactive: you can "zoom in" by clicking on the graph and selecting a date range. You can also right click on them and select "Export as image" to save a jpg file (it takes several seconds for the image to start downloading).

Argentina's Real Inflation Estimates

In this website I present more detailed daily price data for Argentina, where official statistics are widely discredited since January 2007 when the government intervened the national statistics institute (INDEC).
The website is in Spanish, but automated translation links are available on the sidebar.
